Vynález heterosexuality (komentář Věra Sokolová)

Jonathan Ned Katz

Gender a výzkum / Gender and Research 2013, 14 (2): 4-13

The paper maps the history of the term and ideas about heterosexuality in the United States of America since the second half of the 19th century until the 20th century. Katz focuses primarily on the construction of the concept and terminological apparatus of heterosexuality (and homosexuality) in the medical discourse, its entry into the social mind and historical changes in the subsequent periods.

"Co z těch dětí vyroste?" O rizicích oprese sociální práce vůči stejnopohlavním rodičům

Gender a výzkum / Gender and Research 2013, 14 (2): 14-26

Social work as an institutionalized profession aims to promote and defend human rights and social justice regardless of gender, sexual orientation and other grounds. Rooted in Christianity, it is partly performed by religious organizations and religious people. Consequently, conservative values may orient the profession, thus conflicting with the rights of lesbians and gays. The aim of the article is to present the risks of social worker´s oppressive action toward same-sex parents, and to suggest possibilities how to avoid such ethical misconduct. First, we present a dilemma of social work arising from the tension between ethical principles of equality...

Prostorovost, institucionalizace a kontextualita heteronormativity: studie vyjednávání neheterosexuálních identit v Česku

Michal Pitoňák

Gender a výzkum / Gender and Research 2013, 14 (2): 27-40

The article focuses on the relationship between space and sexuality, phenomena rarely studied together in the Czech social sciences. I use heteronormativity to describe the power polarization of largely socially constructed institutionalized relations between various sexualities. These polarizations are also inherently spatial, thus geographical phenomena. First, I focus on the discussion of various theoretical standpoints linked with foundations of heteronormativity. Secondly, I critically rethink the linear view of non-heterosexual identity development and discuss non-linear alternatives of 'passing' and sexual 'closetedness'. I then incorporate...

Potíže s hmotou: Judith Butler a/nebo nový materialismus?

Hana Porkertová

Gender a výzkum / Gender and Research 2013, 14 (2): 41-51

The article presents the contemporary feminist stream of new materialism, and compares and contracts it with the linguistic branch of poststructuralism which has been criticized by new materialism for neglecting matter. The paper first discusses points of departure these two streams share, specifically, a critique of Western metaphysics, and in particular the fundamental interrogation of dualities and the idea of a stable inner essence in Western thought. Consequently, the article shortly introduces the starting points of new materialism and presents Judith Butler's ideas on matter which are pivotal for the comparison that follows. The comparison of...

Genderové souvislosti reforem důchodového systému v ČR

Radka Dudová

Gender a výzkum / Gender and Research 2013, 14 (2): 56-66

The paper discusses changes that have occurred in the Czech pension system since 1996 in terms of their gender impact. The pension system is considered in a broader socio-economic context. I take into account different working careers of men and women and their unequal share in unpaid care work. I analyse individual steps of the reform (the criteria for entitlement to a retirement pension, changes in the mechanism for calculating pension benefits, and the newly established private second pillar) and show the impact of these changes on women and men in retirement. I conclude that although the reform is presented as gender-neutral just because it maintains...
