Call for papers for a special issue Feminist Re-Interpretations of Islam

The journal Gender a výzkum / Gender and Research announces a call for paper for a special issue on Feminist Re-Interpretations of Islam, edited by Gabriela Özel Volfová.

The special issue on Feminist Re-Interpretations of Islam seeks to publish research articles from both theoretical and empirical perspectives addressing, but not exclusive of, the complexity of Muslim feminist approaches to Islam, discourses about gender equality in the Qur´an and various expressions of Muslim women fighting for emancipation from patriarchy by exploring Muslim women’s agency.

The forthcoming thematic issue invites papers that focus on (but are not necessarily limited to) the following areas:

  • Definitions of Islamic Feminism
  • Islamic Feminist Re-reading of the Qur’an
  • Muslim Feminist Struggles for Justice and Equality: Historical and Contemporary views
  • Islamic Feminism in the Middle East, Asia and Africa–Transnational Perspectives
  • Islamic Feminists in the West
  • Islamophobia and Muslim women
  • Islamic Feminist Challenges to the Muslim Family Laws
  • Faith and Activism in the Domain of Islamic Feminism

If you are interested in publishing a paper in the forthcoming thematic issue, please submit your full paper by 30 March 2019 to genderteam@soc.cas.cz and to the addresses of the guest editors: ozelvolfova@orient.cas.cz. Write ‘reinterpretation of Islam’ in the subject line of your email. Articles may be submitted in Czech, Slovak or English (for-non-Czech/non-Slovak speakers). All papers are reviewed in-house and by two anonymous reviewers. We also welcome book reviews and conference reports and relevant news on the topic.
