Gender, rovné příležitosti, výzkum (Gender, Equal Opportunities, Research) is a journal that has been published since 2000 by the Gender & Sociology Department at the Institute of Sociology AS CR. During its first five years the journal was a quarterly publication prepared as part of a project titled “Current Issues in the Formation of Equal Opportunity Policy in Connection with the Preparation of the Czech Republic for EU Accession”, funded by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, and since 2005 it has been published biannually under the project “Support for the Social Acceptance and Effective Promotion of Gender Equality in the Public Sphere”, funded by Academy of the Sciences of the Czech Republic under its programme of “Support for Targeted Research Projects”. In 2006 Gender, rovné příležitosti, výzkum became a peer-reviewed journal. This change can be seen as a reflection of the fact that the field of gender studies has gradually established itself in the Czech Republic. Given that gender issues have not yet been given adequate attention in the Czech Republic, we hope that this step marks a contribution to its continued interdisciplinary development. The journal’s review procedure ensures that the articles on gender studies that are published have a high quality of scholarship and guarantees that published submissions are a part of the current system of the evaluation of science and research. It is therefore our hope that the establishment of this peer-reviewed journal will encourage more widespread attention to gender issues in the social sciences and humanities in the Czech Republic. 

The journal’s current content adheres to the concept embraced in previous volumes, wherein attention was focused both on analyses of feminist and gender theoretical and methodological concepts and on presenting the results and findings of sociological studies on the gender structure of society. Abstracts of articles published in Gender, Equal Opportunities, Research have since 2005 been published in the e-journal Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (http://cejsh.icm.edu.pl), which publishes English abstracts of articles printed in journals published in the four Visegrád countries.

Gender, rovné příležitosti, výzkum (ISSN 1213-0028) – a journal of the Gender & Sociology Department published by the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The journal is published biannually under the project “Support for the Social Acceptance and Effective Promotion of Gender Equality in the Public Sphere”, funded by Academy of the Sciences of the Czech Republic under its programme of “Support for Targeted Research Projects” (reg. no. S700280503). It has a print run of 350 copies and is distributed free of charge.
